What is the best app for the DLR test?

Short answer

It depends on your goal. In a feature comparison of seven DLR apps (October 2026), only DLR Test Trainer combines 10 test types, exam simulation, adaptive levels, error analysis, offline use, no account, iOS and Android, and 4 languages. For MIC with a joystick you need PilotentestTraining or SkyTest.

There is no single best app for everyone, but there is a clear answer for each goal. In October 2026 we compared seven apps from the App Store and Google Play that are explicitly aimed at DLR test candidates, based only on the store listings and the providers' websites. In this feature comparison, DLR Test Trainer is the only one of these apps that offers all of the following together: ten DLR test types, exam simulation, adaptive levels, error analysis, full offline use, no account, iOS and Android, and four languages (DE, EN, FR, IT). Where do other apps offer more?

PilotentestTraining comes closest: it also has ten test types, a DLR simulation, six difficulty levels and a strengths and weaknesses analysis. On top of that it offers MIC with a joystick or gamepad, a web app and community features. In return you need an account, the app is available in German and English, and it is licensed by subscription terms. SkyTest has the largest scope with 41 modules including MIC, but the full version is designed for tablets and sold as a one-off purchase without a free version.

DLR Test Trainer does not train MIC. The feel of a joystick can only be practised to a limited extent on a touchscreen anyway. Background on the page MIC and the joystick.

What is free?

In DLR Test Trainer, cube folding, path figures, technical comprehension and English are free for good, and you can try each of the other six modules once. Pro costs CHF 6.00 a month or CHF 20.00 one-off (as of October 2026, local store prices may differ). The SkyTest apps and PilotPass cost money before download; the other apps are free downloads with in-app purchases and free tiers of varying size.

TipDownload two or three apps with a free tier and practise with each for a week. That is the quickest way to find out which one you will stick with every day.

What no app can do

No app replaces the official DLR preparation software you receive with your invitation, and none can guarantee a result. All third-party providers recreate the mechanics and do not use original test items. How to combine an app, the official software and joystick training is covered on the page Can you prepare for the DLR test with an app?. Features and terms change, so check the current store listing before you buy.
